http://www.mditv.com — When a person suffers a stroke, quick and appropriate treatment is crucial. Does the day of the week when a person has their stroke affect the quality of treatment? Is a stroke patient’s chance of survival better on a weekday or on a weekend?

Those are the questions researchers wanted to answer when they sifted through more than eight years worth of reports on every patient from every hospital in Virginia given a diagnosis of ischemic stroke; that’s the type of stroke caused by a blood clot in the brain. The results indicate that patients admitted on weekends were just as likely to survive as those admitted on weekdays. What’s more, the weekend patients were more likely to be treated with a clot busting drug called tissue plasminogen activators (tPA). tPA treatment is recommended if it can be given within three hours of the patient’s first discernible stroke symptoms. The data couldn’t tell researchers exactly why patients admitted on weekends were more likely to get the recommended tPA treatment, although some possible reasons might be that patients are more likely to quickly go to the hospital on weekends, or perhaps hospitals aren’t as busy on weekends as they are during the week.

I have a blood clot from my cephalic vein to my subclavian vein, so my picc line has to stay in for several more months until the blood clot dissolves. I also have an infection near the picc line site. This video walks you through the process of changing the dressing. I go twice daily to have the dressing changed (for a month)…This is all part of the Crohn’s but hopefully things will start to change for the better….Enjoy my video and Comment Rate and Subscribe…

Hey Everyone! I am joining Dennis as we both found that our mission is so similar that seperately we are doing fine, but together we can do great things. In the IBD community it is important to raise awareness as we all fight each day. So, this collaboration is such a positive force to accomplishing that goal. Some of the information in this introduction video is repeat from some of my past videos but for those of you who do not know me, it gives you a brief glimpse into the life of Nadia and my struggle. When I first became ill, I struggled a lot, not only physically, but emotionally as well, but over the course of the last three years, I have shed a lot of my embarrassment and have opened myself up to being comfortable with myself and my disease. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, Dennis and the UC community!! An interesting fact I found out the other day was that an elephant eliminates up to 300 pounds of waste a day.. Having a chronic illness effects day to day living, but it also impacts decisions we make in our life. These life altering choices that we have to make because illness sometimes robs us of an opportunity, and we are unable to experience things to the fullest extent. This is not a “feel sorry for me” video at all. I am just saying that there are times when, as much as I want to have a full experience, I can’t fully enjoy it because my illness tends to dominate over everything else, and my road to recovery often is interrupted by setbacks that profoundly effect my life. It’s the way it is. But I just can’t help wanting to know what it’s like to have it all BUT I think I appreciate more of what I have because of it. So, it’s double edged, Good and Bad.
