Swollen ankle = Blood Clot?

My grandma’s ankle has been swollen, and I don’t know if her foot is too, but she went to the dr. today and did an x-ray and told her to go to the big hospital in the nearest town and have an ultrasound done, and my grandpa said they said it might be a blood clot.. if it is what do they do then?
Thanks everyone, turned out not to be a clot and they gave her water pills and she has to go back to see her dr. in a week.. Thank God!

They will probably give her a blood thinner if it is a clot.

They will most likely give her a blood thinner and once this clot is gone, a regular aspirin regimen to reduce the likelihood of future clots.
