3D Medical Animation of DVT & Pulmonary Embolism

http://www.nucleusinc.com This 3D medical animation shows a blood clot forming in a lower leg vein, creating a deep vein thrombosis, or DVT. When the thrombus breaks free of the valve, it is called an embolus, and travels toward the heart and lungs. The animation ends by showing the embolus lodging in the lung tissue forming a life-threatening pulmonary embolism (PE). This can also be …
This can also be prevented via the use of an SCD, or a sequential compression device. DVT, et.all is many times caused by a knee surgery and/or replacement, so often the Px is older or is non-ambulatory. The SCD pump basically blows air into a sleeve which is around the patient’s leg, thereby causing superficial compression on the area(s) most likely to develop DVT, and prevents the clots from forming. Along with the use of a CPM, (moves leg passively) it can be very effective therapy.

    Depends on if the …
Depends on if the clot is acute or chronic. Acute being new. Yes, a piece off the clot can break off and travel to the heart and cause cardiac arrest, or if it doesn’t affect the heart it can travel past the heart to the lungs. Both life threatening Symptoms: swelling in the affected leg, discolored skin, pain or tenderness, etc.

  12. akagrin Says:

    You have two …
You have two systems of veins. A superficial system and a deep system. Most likely you clotted off the superficial system. It wouldn’t hurt to have an ultrasound done to make sure it hasn’t propagated to the deep system. You should be fine.
